How did you get started in whatever discipline you pursue with your dogs? I'm interested for a couple of reasons- first, that these are usually great stories, and second, I'm always looking to expand my dog activities and I'm interested in how most people get started. I got start by fostering GSPs. I was so blown away by one dog in particular who had so much natural skill and drive, it was awesome to watch. Even now that I've been involved with bird dogs, she was really something special. I didn't know how special at the time, but having seen some incredibly bred, birdy dogs, she'd hold her own with any of them. I then realized that without land, I had no place owning a dog like that. Like a 16 year old owning a ferrari. So I opted instead for a field built labrador- a bit of a step down in energy and drive, but still an awesome dog. Then I figured, "Hey, lets see what he can do in the field!" So we did, and he seemed to have the necessary drive, so here we are :-) I'd imagine a lot of people have some pretty cool stories about what got them started in herding, agility, field competitions, conformation shows, lure coursing, or which ever other activities you engage in with your dogs.
